Today's big adventure was an art project! All my roommates went home... along with everyone else in College Station... so I went outside and made myself useful!
First off, today was absolutely gorgeous. I know I can often times get so caught up in my own life that I forget to just go outside and BE! I went outside, turned on my Bon Iver playlist, and started at it.
My roommate, Kenzie, and I were coming home from a movie late one night when we passed this house that was under construction. There were all these beautiful, huge windows sitting by the dumpster waiting to be taken away. I made Kenzie stop the car for the "surprise" and we proceeded to put two windows in the back of her car. Kenzie made hers into a head board awhile back and I hadn't found the time to fix mine up.
This is what I decided to do with it! The pictures are hanging from wire. They are all my favorites from weheartit.com. I used an old Bible of mine to paper mache the window! Hope ya like it! It's going in our kitchen!

Stalkday
Tuesday=Stalkday
This Tuesday was pretty much full of stalking. No, not Facebook stalking... I was youtube stalking. While others may stalk that goofy guy mouthing the words to Katy Perry songs or Anna's Cheerleading video...
I stalk rottweilers.
I am going to get my very own rottweiler one day and I will train him to be sweet and cuddly... but still super protective too. :-) Here are my favorite youtube videos I found.
Awwwww!!!

High School Hero's vs. E-1

Monday = Scoutday.
And I don't mean scout like Boy Scouts...I mean scout as in scouting the high school football team you're playing next week. I wasn't scouting the high school team though, I was scouting the college men's intramural volleyball champions. There's an outfit in the corp (outfit...isn't that right?...company, squadron, who knows..) that is known for it's athletic members. This outfit...E-1.
You might ask...why was I scouting along with a few other "High School Hero's" (our intramural volleyball name)? Well, just check out this FB event and you will understand.

Next, you might ask... How did they do? Very good, actually. I was impressed at their control of the game. We'll see how the game turns out after Thanksgiving! I'll keep you posted!

Lazy Sunday
Actually, Sunday wasn't lazy AT ALL! I got back from formal and then rushed to the Woodlands with my Muster partner Margaux. We met up with the rest of the SpecOps committee at The Cheescake Factory! Yumm. Unfortunately, I ordered my food to go, payed, and left right when I got it because I had to be back in College Station at 9:10 pm for our Championship volleyball game...followed by our Championship powderpuff football game! Could've been a great night...but two losses and Cali's broken pinky later...we were the losers of the night. My last goal of college is to win a Championship Intramural shirt. I guess I'll have to go even harder in the Spring haha.
I wasn't exactly in a "smiley" mood after that night so I'll just show the Muster hangout picture.

AMC Formal Day #2
Saturday was a great day as well! I will touch on just two of my favorite parts in the day or else it might take awhile!
1) We went to the ZOO!!! YES, THE ZOO! I hadn't been to the zoo in years and I have figured out that aquariums and zoos are two of my favorite places. It made me feel like a kid again to walk around the stinky zoo and stare googly-eyed at the leopards and lemurs and lions and lizards! haha I have to say, though, there was one animal that I instantly fell in love with. I took a video of my reasoning.
2) At the actual formal, we got all dressed up, ate, danced, and watched the Texas Aggies BTHO Nebraska!!! Here is a sneak peak :-) haha

AMC Formal Day #1
Friday, November 19, 2010
Allie, Glenn, Aaron and I left for AMC Formal! We started it all off by going to Wimberly (Glenn's hometown) to eat dinner! Wimberly is such a cute little town...had no idea! Then, we headed to the Hyatt to meet up with everyone for the weekend. Allie and I were roomies along with a girl we didn't previously know, Rachel. She was so great and we all got along really well! Next, we went to the Alamo! I hadn't gone there since I was in junior high so it was nice to be able to experience it again. It seemed a lot smaller than I had remembered haha. Anyways, after that, we went to a place called Mitierra. It's a Mexican Cafe that has been open 24/7 since the day it came about. We ate pastries and then received an hour history lesson from the manager. It was such a cool place, but afterwards, Allie and I were dead tired. We all walked home and called it a night!

"We Remember..."
Thursday, November 18, 2010
As Aggies, this day is a special day that greets us every year with mourning, remembrance, and thankgiving for the family we have at Texas A&M. At 2:42am, 11 years ago, Aggie Bonfire collapsed and took the lives of 12 Aggies with it. We now have a Bonfire Memorial in its place adorning the names, pictures and lives of these 12 fallen Aggies. You can pay the Memorial a visit any time or day of the year, but at 2:42am on the 18th of November, you will always find a mass of Aggies huddled inside and around it. The families and friends of the 12 come back to Aggieland each year and are seated right where the center pole was when the Bonfire still took place. They lead us in the Aggie War Hymn, we all sing Amazing Grace together, and at times we just stand in silence and pray. A roll call for the 12 takes place and we take time to let the families and each other know that "We Remember".
To be at the Bonfire Remembrance as a Senior this year was incredible. With random people around me who I've never met all reciting "We Remember" and singing Amazing Grace, I just have to stop and thank the Lord that he put me here. Texas A&M has become one of my passions in life and I don't know how I'm going to leave this place. The character of this school combined with the strong bonds each one of us has to each other is unlike anything I've ever seen. There's just something so special that, yes, I have to say it, "From the outside you can't understand it. From the inside you can't explain it." Tonight was a perfect example of that.
After the ceremony was done, the families proceeded to leave the Memorial. I will never forget seeing the mom of one of the 12 fallen Aggies, Miranda Adams, walking away saying, "Thank you for coming. You don't understand how much this means to us" to every single person she passed.
The Aggie Bonfire Memorial is such an important part of A&M. I encourage you to go if you've never been. Here are a few quotes from 3 of the 12 Aggies memorials:
“Help my buddies first.” . . . uttered Tim as he lay on the fallen stack. He then directed rescue workers to five others whom he could see before allowing them to free him. Eagle Scout Tim Kerlee was posthumously granted Boy Scout’s highest award, the MEDAL OF MERIT, for his heroic actions.
I walked to the altar. I was alone when I began to pray. I prayed to the Lord to help me through times of temptation so I wouldn’t give in. I felt a feeling of warmth and security surround me and flow through me. At that moment, I knew for sure I would never be alone. When I opened my eyes I was surrounded by others and felt assured and strong. Afterward, I never felt weak, hopeless or alone again. I also believe I never will.

Harry Potter! Bring it on!
Wednesday, November 17, 2010
As many of you may have heard, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is coming out tomorrow night at midnight! I have been anxiously awaiting this day since Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I even purchased my ticket with MaryCameron a month and a half ago. I cannot believe the time has come! As is only fitting... Kenzie (my roommate) and Mike, Wells and Kyle (our neighbors) and I went out to the porch and whittled our wands in preparation for the premier. Mike had sought out some nice sticks, gathered the feathers of a few guinea hens that annoyingly roam our neighborhood and called us out to the porch. We all whittled our wands with knives and then took a drill to secure the feathers. Next, we stained the wands to make them more "realistic". I feel that these wands will really add to our costumes. :) Until then, I have provided you with pictures and a nice article on the top 25 spells used at Hogwarts. I have memorized them and I hope you will too.

THIS DAY WAS A GREAT DAY!!!
There were two reasons for this..
1) I completed my 1st Sudoku with my friend Mike! I have always watched others work on these puzzles...some with success...others with frustration...but I have always looked on with envy. I would make up excuses like...I'm far too brilliant to work on that kind of puzzle (haha)...or I just don't have time to play games...while secretly, I was a scared little girl who didn't want to be shown up by a puzzle! So...Tuesday of this week...I grabbed the Batt and went at it. Though it took longer than I would like to admit...I successfully completed it. Call me a nerd, but I'm considering buying one of those books full of them. I want to master these things. We'll see how it goes...for now, here is my completed puzzle!
2) GLEE was AWESOME!!! It's been getting pretty scandalous lately so I have been veryyyyy disappointed in the show. However, today was kind of nice! Here are the two songs that rocked my world tonight! ENJOY!

Today, Chi Omega Powderpuff was supposed to play in our Championship game! Sadly, the rain made us re-schedule for Sunday night. We'll be playing the "Destroyers". They are the REC-sponsored team. I'm not sure how you become REC-sponsored? I think there's a try-out or something. Nevertheless, WE WILL PREVAIL! In the powderpuff tournament this past weekend, ChiO received the 3rd place trophy and came up with our "War Phrase". Enjoy...
"We're a semi-truck.. with no brakes!"
haha Here's a picture from this weekend of our team along with a dance that Cali Leopold and I have memorized to perform at half-time on Sunday. Hope to see you there!

Engagement Day!!!
Saturday, WHAT A DAY! I traveled to Graham, TX to surprise my best friend from high school who got engaged earlier that day! Elizabeth and three others (Mandy, Hillary, and Anna) are my best friends from high school and we ALWAYS said Liz would be the first one to get hitched. We were right! Saturday afternoon Jason Custer took her to PK (her favorite place in the world) to go hiking. To her surprise, they ended up at a beautiful scenic area where she read a six page long letter about what she meant to him. He then got on one knee and proposed and...SHE SAID YES! WHOOP! Afterwards, Jason took her to eat where all her family and best friends surprised her! Then we headed back to Wichita Falls for an even bigger hangout where we made toasts and hung out with the newly engaged couple. I am so excited for these two. The Lord has been so prevalent in their relationship from the start and they are so perfect for each other. Here are some pictures from the night!
Congratulations, Liz! We love you so much!

Morning Glory
Due to an extremely busy week last week, I'm going to catch up as best as I can... but I'll be skipping a few days! Many of them were full of late night studying to get prepared for my Management and Marketing tests. We'll start with Thursday! A few of my roomies and I had Bible Study and then got a big group to go to see "Morning Glory"! I actually really liked it! Here's a picture of all of us and the Morning Glory trailer with my FAVORITE song at the end!

Mr. President
Saturday, November 6, 2010
Saturday = Game day
Started the mornin' out strong with a nice Shipley's breakfast with my longest lifetime-friend, Taylor Moffet, who is also a Boomer Sooner (yes, i know...hiss hiss). Then, a few of us went to lunch at the new BBQ place by La Bodega to celebrate Jimbo's birthday! It was pretty empty and then...BOOM!...in walks George Bush Sr. and Barbara! Jimbo was the first brave soul to approach President Bush, introducing himself as Jimbo. President Bush said, "Well, hello Jim!" Then...JIMBO CORRECTED THE PRESIDENT!!! "It's Jimbo, sir!" WHAT!?!? Good thing he was the birthday boy or the Secret Service guys at the next table could've done away with him right then and there! We asked the bartender to take a picture of all of us with them and he didn't do a very good job as you will see... haha! Nonetheless, you can get the jest of it. I'd like to think the glare was the presence of God hovering over the Bush's. LOOK! I'm even touching his shoulder!!!! Here ya go, Ags! And WHOOP for our victory over OU!

We bought them two coke floats as well. We left before the restaurant surprised them with it...but I will always imagine George Bush Sr. and the Silver Fox slurpin' down some floats and talking about the good old days. :-)
Friday Night Pink Lights?
Friday, November 5, 2010
On Friday, I attended an event called "Intimacy". Sounds a little strange... I know...but hear me out. It's a women's night of worship at one of the church's here in College Station. I'm talking...pink lights...dancers dancing up front...worship songs specifically geared towards women's hearts. Lovesss ittt! haha. For some reason, every year at Intimacy, I walk in, we start praying, and I automatically have tears rolling down my cheeks! I love being in a room full of girls who love the Lord and are all singing in their beautiful voices praising God! Here's a promo type video that was all over Facebook before Friday night to advertise it.

Thursday was an awesome day! Our Chi Omega Powderpuff team barely won our semi-final game...but with the clutch catch of Gracilynn Miller, we're advancing into the finals this upcoming week! After the game, I came home and grilled 15 of the 45 dove my dad gave me last time I came home! Doves are one of my favorite foods so I have to ration them out! I always joke around with Big John that, even though he taught me how, I have now exceeded him in the art of grilling them. Anyways, after our 10:45pm football game, Alexis, Lauren Trefny, and I had a glass of wine while sitting on the back porch bundled up! After the dove were done.. we scarfed them down and went to bed. Successful day!

Postcards From Wichita Falls

Wichita Falls. I am proud to call it my hometown...as anyone who knows me...or any other Wichitan has figured out. There is one problem! Wichitans are just so social that it's nearly impossible to get all of them together at one place! This has posed a problem throughout my college years, so I decided to do something about it! I made a Facebook event called "Wichita, Wichita, Which of Ya'll Love Wichita"...duh...and waited for everyone to show up at Rosa's for a Wichita Falls dinner fiesta! Needless to say... with a group of Wichitans huddled around a table eating mexican food... IT WAS A HIT!
These aren't even all the folks from Wichita Falls that go to Texas A&M... I bet that's a surprise to you! One thing that we've always been great at doing is really building up our town. haha These are some things you may observe if you are passing through Wichita Falls, TX on any given day...
Here is one of our Wichitan folk standing near the shortest skyscraper in the world. Don't believe us? Just ask the Guinness Book of World Records. Here's the story: Some guy came into our beloved town and convinced the citizens of Wichita Falls to invest in a beautiful skyscraper. He showed us the blueprints, named his price, and started building this massive tower.
"The only discrepancy was that on the building’s blueprints, the scale was 1/12th of normal. One foot was reduced to one inch. Investors assumed that their property was destined to be a landmark building from which Oklahoma could be seen, or dirigibles could be tethered. In reality it turned out to resemble a fire department training tower." (TexasEscapes.com)
All the while, the scammer ran away with an estimated 200K! People have been picking on us good-hearted Wichitans ever since. haha
The last big attraction is "The Dirt Hill". This dirt hill has provided Wichitans with much entertainment. Whether it's sledding down it on a snow day, running up it for exercise or sitting at the top of it late at night watching the stars... this dirt hill is versatile and frankly, awesome. Though I haven't been able to find a picture of our beloved dirt hill on the internet... the video link will show you what it looks like along with more amazing Wichita Falls attractions! Postcards From Wichita
On a more serious note, I love love love my hometown! Even though it is plain and simple, the people that come out of it are so much fun, in my opinion! In high school, we decided we weren't going to break laws to have fun, so we had to be very creative. haha We would play sports alll theee timeeee, host a game of Capture the Flag or Fugitive all across town, get hooked on TV shows like "Heroes", and had all the time in the world to actually sit down and know each other better than most people know their own family. I love my friends from home and cherish the memories we've made.
When coming home from College Station, I see the Sutherlands billboard when passing over the bridge... and I have a sigh of relief... I'm finally home.

Tuesday night after Muster, we were all encouraged to go to Silver Taps. For anyone who isn't familiar with Muster or Silver Taps... Muster is on April 21st of every year. Texas A&M students, alumni, and families get together to honor all the Aggies who passed away that year and celebrate the lives they lived. Everyone then hears their loved ones name called out and proceed to stand and say "Here" for them. In my opinion, this is our University's best tradition. We never forget an Aggie who is no longer with us and we always stick together as family. Silver Taps takes place every first Tuesday of the month and honors any current students on A&M campus who have passed away that month.
This past Tuesday, Wills Setzler was honored on our campus. My dad grew up with Wills' dad and was able to attend Will's funeral. I remember my dad handing me his obituary when I was home a few weekends ago and thinking what a great guy he must have been by what the article said. There was also an article in the Battalion about him and his life. He was said to have been a bright, energetic young man who was always positive, even after his diagnosis with cancer.
Standing on A&M's campus last Tuesday night, with hundreds of students circling around his parents, I was so proud to be an Aggie and so glad our school is able to comfort the families the way we do. Today's post is dedicated to Wills Setzler and his family.

Monday = Funday!
I don't have classes on Monday, Wednesday or Friday because of my amazing 9 hour senior schedule. What do I do in my free-time you might ask? Well...a number of things! I've been blessed enough to mentor two amazing freshman girls, work on the Muster Committee, play 4 intramurals, and of course, Chi Omega. Today's post is dedicated to my fraternity (yes, chi o is actually a fraternity due to the fact it was founded by a man, Dr. Richardson) and my Lord.
I came into college not really sure about getting into the Greek system. I was raised playing sports and never really had any "girl drama" in my life because of the solid girls the Lord blessed me with. The thought of joining a sorority sounded exciting to me, but at the same time, I had seen what they looked like in movies and wasn't really into that kind of thing. Nevertheless, I gave it a shot and found such awesome community in
Chi O. These girls have made me the person I am during a time in life where it's so easy to slip into being a person you can hardly even recognize anymore. I've been mentored and discipled in this sorority and I can confidently say these girls have made me into the better version of myself.
This past Monday, I was able to give "a word", as I like to jokingly call it, at meeting. About 2 weeks ago, I'd been reflecting on life a lot and realizing how very small and fragile we are as human beings. Strangely enough, I kept getting these emails from my grandpa and friends that showed a person, then scanned back to the world, then scanned back to the galaxy, then scanned to other galaxies...just furthering my thoughts on the whole subject. I went through some points in my week really upset and down, thinking, "I am so small and insignificant...my life is so short...how can I do anything of substance with my life?"
At this thought, I quickly remembered the beauty of it all. Though I'm small and my life is a vapor, my Maker knows me personally and loves me passionately. I'm able to have a personal and intimate relationship with the One who's bigger than me, the world, the galaxies. He made them! How cool is that to stop and reflect on?
One step further, I thought about my purpose on this Earth. The only thing I can do in this world that can even make a dent are things of eternal value that bring glory to God's name. That really puts things into perspective for me during my senior year. Though my school hours are short and my extracurriculars are many... haha... in everything I do, may I do it to the glory of the Lord. Whether that's playing a sport and encouraging the people around me or teaching a freshman the word of God.
This, in a nutshell, was the "word" I shared with the chapter this week. It's what's been on my heart and something that has consumed a lot of my thoughts as of late. My mom sent me this devotional on one of those days I was struggling with my inadequacy. I hope it speaks to you like it did to me.

Happy Halloween!
Alright, so I'm going to count the camping event as Saturday's event, considering it spilled into the next day. Other exciting things that happened that day... aTm beat TECH! WHOOP!
On to Sunday, Halloween! That day I went to church, had a Muster meeting, went over to Brittany Griffin's house for the Rangers game and apple cider, and then watched the new zombie TV series, "The Walking Dead" with my neighbors. Though this day was entertaining and eventful, I can't help but remember the days where I could barely go to sleep in anticipation of Trick-or-Treating the next day.
I'd go to school on Halloween in my awesome costume I'd spent all month thinking up (or Yvonne thought of) and then I'd roam the neighborhood grabbing candy left and right while watching out for creepy white vans the News told me to avoid. I'll never forget the old man on the corner of Martinique who would give king sized Snickers bars every year. I used to think he must be the richest man in the world. (Bucket List: hand out king-sized candy at Halloween when I own a house) Then I'd run home with my brother and we'd sit in the den. For some reason, I would sort all my candy out. The M&M pile, the Laffy Taffy pile, the gum pile, the pencils and rulers pile (hated those houses), etc. We would bag them all up in separate zip-locks and then my mom would bribe me for my Reece's pieces. Those were the days.
In honor of the glory days... Yvonne sent me old pictures of me and my brother, Josh, in our different Halloween costumes over the years. Here are a few!
What're you trying to say, Mom and Dad?
That's more like it!
I went through a bit of a tom-boy stage that year... Josh was just a strange child. haha
Howdy, Ags! We're from Wichita!
Grease! I like how Yvonne and John would coordinate our outfits... sorry Josh... haha
EXTREMELY excited!
Still dressing up for Halloween in 12th grade? yes, please!

Roughin' It
Friday, October 29, 2010.
There were 2 "big events" today! One of my best friends from high school, Mark, plays soccer for Mary Hardin-Baylor and has been extremely successful as a keeper over the past four years. My Rider High School friends who went to A&M and I all decided to make the trip to Belton to FINALLY watch him play college ball! We always called him "Killer Miller" back in the day, so we made him a sign sporting his long-lost name and hit the road! It was so great to see him and he's still "got it" after all these years. I feel it's pretty rare to still keep up with your friends from high school, but it's been amazing to see how my best friends back then are still some of my best friends today. It's so important to me to have people from every stage of my life that I still keep up with. They remind me of where I've been and are there for me as I become the person I want to be in the future. Here's a picture of all of us after the game at Mark's favorite BBQ restaurant!
Now, on to the second event of the day! CAMPING! After the game, I drove 10 minutes to meet my friends at Roger's Campsite. This has been on our "Bucket List" for a very long time now but it's always been impossible to get everyone on board. I think I've figured out how to get things like this to actually happen. One word: Spontaneity. In the past, we've planned a week in advance, allowing everyone to look at their planners and realize, "Wow... I have a lot of little things I could do this weekend. I'm just going to stay home." In reality, we say this and then spend the weekend hanging out at each others houses watching a movie. NO MORE! This time, one of our friends woke up on Friday morning, mass texted everyone, and left a few hours later. That is spontaneity (and mass texting, I suppose) at its finest.
The camping trip was such a hit! We sat around the camp fire all night and had good, intentional conversations. We ate S'mores, cooked over an open fire, hiked and spooned in order to keep warm. It was such simple living and I think that's what made all of us leave Saturday morning saying, "That was one of my college highlights." Here are the "Oh SNAP"-shots of our camping trip.

AMC Barn Dance
Thursday, October 28, 2010.
Today, I went to AMC's date party called Barn Dance. It was such a blast! Dancing is one of my favorite things to do, especially country dancing! Here are a few pictures from that night.
My roommate, Allie, and me
Our great dates, Tim and Rawles
Petting Zoo!
It was a great night full of dancing, s'mores and good conversations!
