There were 2 "big events" today! One of my best friends from high school, Mark, plays soccer for Mary Hardin-Baylor and has been extremely successful as a keeper over the past four years. My Rider High School friends who went to A&M and I all decided to make the trip to Belton to FINALLY watch him play college ball! We always called him "Killer Miller" back in the day, so we made him a sign sporting his long-lost name and hit the road! It was so great to see him and he's still "got it" after all these years. I feel it's pretty rare to still keep up with your friends from high school, but it's been amazing to see how my best friends back then are still some of my best friends today. It's so important to me to have people from every stage of my life that I still keep up with. They remind me of where I've been and are there for me as I become the person I want to be in the future. Here's a picture of all of us after the game at Mark's favorite BBQ restaurant!
Now, on to the second event of the day! CAMPING! After the game, I drove 10 minutes to meet my friends at Roger's Campsite. This has been on our "Bucket List" for a very long time now but it's always been impossible to get everyone on board. I think I've figured out how to get things like this to actually happen. One word: Spontaneity. In the past, we've planned a week in advance, allowing everyone to look at their planners and realize, "Wow... I have a lot of little things I could do this weekend. I'm just going to stay home." In reality, we say this and then spend the weekend hanging out at each others houses watching a movie. NO MORE! This time, one of our friends woke up on Friday morning, mass texted everyone, and left a few hours later. That is spontaneity (and mass texting, I suppose) at its finest.
The camping trip was such a hit! We sat around the camp fire all night and had good, intentional conversations. We ate S'mores, cooked over an open fire, hiked and spooned in order to keep warm. It was such simple living and I think that's what made all of us leave Saturday morning saying, "That was one of my college highlights." Here are the "Oh SNAP"-shots of our camping trip.
GOOD MORNIN'!
