Dedicated to Wills Setzler

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Tuesday night after Muster, we were all encouraged to go to Silver Taps. For anyone who isn't familiar with Muster or Silver Taps... Muster is on April 21st of every year. Texas A&M students, alumni, and families get together to honor all the Aggies who passed away that year and celebrate the lives they lived. Everyone then hears their loved ones name called out and proceed to stand and say "Here" for them. In my opinion, this is our University's best tradition. We never forget an Aggie who is no longer with us and we always stick together as family. Silver Taps takes place every first Tuesday of the month and honors any current students on A&M campus who have passed away that month.

This past Tuesday, Wills Setzler was honored on our campus. My dad grew up with Wills' dad and was able to attend Will's funeral. I remember my dad handing me his obituary when I was home a few weekends ago and thinking what a great guy he must have been by what the article said. There was also an article in the Battalion about him and his life. He was said to have been a bright, energetic young man who was always positive, even after his diagnosis with cancer.

Standing on A&M's campus last Tuesday night, with hundreds of students circling around his parents, I was so proud to be an Aggie and so glad our school is able to comfort the families the way we do. Today's post is dedicated to Wills Setzler and his family.
